Museum Angkut+ - A Classic Cars Heaven

Museum Angkut+ is a transportation museum located beneath the Panderman hills in Batu, Malang – East Java.  This museum is around 4 hectares wide and housed various collections of vehicles from different periods of time along with its development through times.  The museum displays its collections with setting backgrounds of cities, famous movie legends and other exotic buildings, it is divided into several zones, such as Jakarta in the old days, Hollywood, Europe and America.

Each zone is uniquely designed to match the characteristic theme.  These divided zones makes the touring around the museum very interesting and far from boring.  It would approximately takes you 2-3 hours to browse the whole museum, but if you are an antique lover or car collector, you would definitely spend and enjoy a lot more time here.

Here are some of the zones in the museum.

Main hall.  The first room to see and filled with various collections of transportation modes from around the countries and times. The hall is elegantly decorated with beautiful lighting. There are many vintage bicycles and motorcycles in this hall which has historical values and unique.

In this hall, you can see a sport Porche 911 RS made in 1972 modeled by Michael Schumacher.  This model of car  is widely prized by sport car collectors worldwide and the serie of Porche 911 sport car has become the best sport car in its time.  RS itself means “Rennsport” or sport car in German.

There’s also a Phantom Rolls Royce of 1962 with a V8 machine, 6,230cc capacity, twin carburetor and 4-speed automatic transmission.  This phantom V was only produced 516 units worldwide and the owners are among others Queen Elizabeth II, Hong Kong Governor, former Shah Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and Yugoslavia president Josip Broz Tito.  John Lennon was also said to own this Phantom V which was painted to his order.

Education Zone.  A 900m2 wide zone that give you the information on histories of transportation modes from time to time in Indonesia as well as other countries.  There’s an Albert Einstein figure with a transparent / see through vehicle, so that visitors can see how the piston works in the machine. Visitors are also shown about the historical of ships that makes transportation learning very interesting and fun too.

Sunda Kelapa and Batavia Zone.  In this zone, we are brought back to Jakarta in its older time when it was a famous seaport during the time of Netherlands expansion in Indonesia.  There are backgrounds of several Becaks stationed in front of rows of stalls set in a china town, Jakarta Kota Tua train station, Syahbandar tower miniature with several cars inside such as 1958 Chevrolet Apache 3900cc, 1956 Dodge c-3 – 3800cc and 1965 Fiat 615N 1135cc.

Sunda Kelapa and Batavia Zone.

Gangster and Broadway Zone.  In this zone, you can see Al Capone as a famous gangster in the 70s in action and ready to take you into the world of gangster.  The broadway street portray some of the movies legends in various car models.  There’s an old Ford, a 1950 Desoto Guston and 1948 Special Deluxe Plymouth parked along the street.

Europe Zone.  A zone with backgrounds displaying famous European cities and countries at night, such as London, France, Germany and Italy, completed with the various vehicles.  There are also early Vespa in various colors, 1952 Fiat Cooper, 1972 Citroen 2y, 1943 Fiat 500 Topolino, 1970 Volkswagen 2-cabins pickup 1600cc, 1970 VW 411LE 1700cc, 1960 Mercedes Benz W180 1800cc.

Buckingham Palace Zone.  UK has been known for its production of famous and classy cars all over the world and some were displayed in this museum, such as 1956 Jaguar MK VIII 3400cc, 1976 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 6750cc, Blackburn, Triumph, Matchless, Royal Einfield, Raligh, Fillir, Francis Bennet, Austin, Mini Cooper, etc.  There’s also a display of Land Rover that has been used by Queen Elizabeth during her tour trip to Australia complete with a background of the grand Buckingham palace and London view at night.

Las Vegas Zone.  Experience the nights in Las Vegas and its yellow Hammer limousine.
Hollywood Zone, is where one can find the many type of cars that has been used in the Hollywood movies.

Exiting from these zones, you will enter into a train wagon where you will experience a realistic experience riding a train with the moving floor and moving sceneries on the windows.

Tips:

  • There’s a Nusantara floating food court where you can sample various traditional dish and snacks with a nice surroundings of traditional houses of Nias, Papua, Dayak and Java.

  • Visitor brings professional camera would be charged by IDR 30,000, however you are free to take pictures from your handphones
  • Weekdays entry ticket is IDR 50,000 and weekend (Friday-Sunday) and public holiday is IDR 75,000.  During weekdays, the museum is also less crowded.
  • If you plan to go there by night, bring a jacket to keep you warm as temperature is much colder.  Opening hours is 12.00-20.00PM
  • If you can during weekend, there’s a parade starts at 17.00PM starting from Buckingham palace, Las Vegas, Broadway, Gangster Town, Sunda Kelapa and ends at Hollywood zone.

  1. Thanks for sharing the amazing collection of classic things, but I love classic American cars because they have own value on motor markets and I have my own classic cars which I purchased from an old store along with high cost. So your post is great for me.
